All,

SKYWARN(TM) Recognition Day (SRD) is an annual event celebrating the contributions SKYWARN volunteers, especially Amateur Radio operators, make to the Nation Weather Service. It gives SKYWARN volunteers a chance to see NWS operations, meet some of the staff, and for ham radio operations it is a chance to "activate" or contact NWS offices on the air. There may even be some media coverage.

As major participants in the NWS SKYWARN program and a Weather Ready Nation Ambassador, ham operators from El Paso and Teller counties and Pikes Peak ARES have been invited to participate at NWS Pueblo (weather permitting, of course).

This year the event falls on 7 December and I believe is the 20th Anniversary of the event.

Officially, the event starts at 0000Z and runs thru 2359Z of the 7th (for local times that would be 5 PM MT on the 6th to 5PM MT on the 7th) . NWS Pueblo is opening their doors between 8 AM MT to 5 PM MT. Because the NWS is in Pueblo, most of the radio equipment for the event is usually provided by Pueblo hams, so you don't need to pack up a station to bring along. If you want to bring food, that is fantastic, though usually there are some goodies provided.

If you are planning on visiting, let Greg know so he has an idea of how many to expect:

Hope to see you there! If you can't make it, hope to hear you on the air!
