Did you do this online?  If you did, you should have received something showing you paid the fee to register your car in El Paso county Colorado (assuming you did).  That receipt should be all the proof you need until you receive your tag and registration documents.  If you haven't paid any fee, then perhaps a trip to the DMV is in order after all.
