I found part of an interesting article referencing the Pikes Peak
Amateur Radio Association - PPARA (that was the predecessor of PPRAA,
pre-WWII) and the Adaman club from Dec 30, 1936. Unfortunately only part
of the article is readable.

It states that the PPARA would be assisting staying in touch with the
Adaman club.
"... touch with the AdAmAn party by shortwave radio will be Charles
Eining of station W9YYO" (Colorado used to be in the 9th call district)
"and Charles Freeman, both of Colorado Springs.
Eining and Freeman, members of the Pikes Peak Amateur Radio
Association, will leave Manitou Springs at noon for the summit of the
peak.  Messages sent out by the two will be received here by Colorado
Springs members of the association.
Eining and Freeman said last night that that (sic) would attempt to
contact amateur stations with which they have listeningschedules in
Europe, Asia, and many cities in the United States.
The radio party's expedition has been arranged under the direction of
Charles M. Stockdale, president of the association.  The radio operators
will use the associations call W9OKY in its broadcasting tomorrow ..."

and from Jan 1, 1937:

"Short Wave Round World.  The ceremonies of the summit were broadcast by
amateur operators, the description being set out in experimental work on
extremely short wave lengths.  The operators were hoping to establish a
world record for distance with five-meter transmission.  The messages
were received clearly in Colorado Springs, but it was not known last
night how far they went in their world girdling (sic) journey.  The
operators were Charles Eining and Charles Freeman, both of Colorado
Springs and members of the Pikes Peak Amateur Radio Association, which
sponsored the broadcast.  The operators used the association call K9OKY
(sic), in their broadcasting".

It would be interesting to know how they packed the equipment and what
equipment they used.  There was another article that the Cog Railway
tried to make it's way up the mountain for New Year.s but it didn't, due
to huge snow drifts and problems with their snow plow.
I think these articles are out of The Gazette newspaper.

73 and have a great new year
