[PPRAANet] Baofeng vs FCC

WOW!! Looks like I stirred up quite a discussion regarding Baofengs!
John KD0SFY sent several emails directly to me

regarding this issue and we conversed back and forth. He seemed to feel
that my Wouxan was okay and that the issue was mainly

the Baofengs.

In one of the vid.'s it said the problem was the Baofengs were
transmitting at a higher power level than that allowed on the GMRS

bands. I believe it said that the allowed power level was 1.75 watts(?)
and the Baofengs were putting out 5 watts. I may be wrong

but don't wish to spend about 40 minutes watching all the vid.'s I
posted earlier.

My Wouxan "IS" capable of the wide band transmissions so I guess
sooner or later the FCC will be coming after the Wouxan clan. LOL!

One thing I'm ecstatic about is seeing the amount of chatter on the
reflector. This is more than I've seen in months!!

I went to several websites selling the "Japanese" radios and they're
still

at it. I then went directly to the Wouxan home page to see if I could
get better clarification on my radio (KG-UV9D) and low and

behold there was a "NEWER" model, the KG-UV9D PLUS USA and on that page
it says it will transmit ONLY on USA Amateur bans!!

It will still be wide band receive all over the place but is Part 97
compliant. I guess Wouxan is getting nervous! LOL! The "NON" USA

model is still capable of wide range transmit capabilities and higher
power levels right out of the box, no mod/ programing required.

For those following along here is yet another link:

It would seem even the FCC doesn't quite know how to handle/ get out
of this mess. They post one thing, then backpedal, then say something
else and leaving the

Amateur radio community scratching our heads and other parts of our anatomy.

My personal take, only my take, is that until something much more
definitive comes out and some sort of "set in stone" decision is
rendered the fault is on the

importers and whomever at the FCC fell asleep! As long as we, Amateurs,
operate "legally" enjoy your radio(s).
