Subject: [PPRAANet] AF0S is back on line

I went out to Ellicott today. The remote is back on line.

I did some work on the antenna tuner -- not sure if it has resolved the
issue or not, but it seems to be fairly happy now. It doesn't seem to
store an autotune value for 10 meters for some reason. If you need to
tune it on 10, put the remote in the CW mode and activate the TX button
for about 2 seconds, then release it and identify on SSB. When I tried
this, the tuner brings the SWR to 1:1 on that band. I have the XCVR
power limited to only 15 watts on CW. For the other band, this doesn't
seem to be necessary. An indication of a high SWR, is the meter moving
less than 1/4 scale while transmitting on SSB.

I also physically turned the microphone gain knob from full to 1/2 on
the XCVR. I think it was set too high, and causing a lot of background
garbage when transmitting. Adjusting the gain did not seem to affect
the output power -- when I tried the XCVR remote, using my laptop out in
Ellicott, the meter on the XCVR showed I was still getting full output
power.
