Don't make yourself a target for viruses in the first place, Use Linux
or a Mac. For flexibility and value, it's Linux hands down.
I upped my security with Linux, so UP YOURS!
I know some of us (me included) love old computers because they're cheap
and fun to play with. When you need something to run your software
controlled radio, you don't want to use your everyday laptop, so you
build a pc out of used parts. This is where Linux really shines. It's
secure, runs great on old hardware and it's free. FREE!
For those of us in the Amateur Radio hobby, Linux is perfect. From a
security perspective it is not generally a target for viruses and worms,
because it is such a small slice of the market that it doesn't pay to
write custom viruses for it.
Why did Jesse James (my wife's great uncle) rob banks? Because that's
where the money is. Why do bad guys target Windows, because that's where
the unsophisticated rube users (prey) are.
Be sophisticated, Be cool, Be virus free (mostly), Use Linux. The
hackers do.
