The electrics can be fun to watch. Year before last an electric won the race. https://arstechnica.com/cars/2015/07/1-megawatt-electric-car-sets-a-new-record-at-pikes-peak-hillclimb/ They don't lose power with gains in altitude the way gas engines do. Funny thing is they have to have sirens on them so people know they are coming, whereas the gas powered cars you can hear from a long way off. In fact, in 2015 the first car on the course was a quiet electric so when the second car, a gas powered Porsche, came up backfiring like cannon shots and roaring like a jet, it scared my log keeper (wife). You can watch the 2015 winning run at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nMjsAMlXGBI (you may catch a really quick glimpse of our blue Ford Escape as he makes a left at 3:05). They also typically have a few electric motorcycles.
