I need to clarify something and issue an apology regarding the comment about Cheyenne Mountain.
I am not saying that the PPFMA repeaters are better than the CMRG repeaters -- each system has different beneficial attributes. I am not the kind of guy to play favorites and you will frequently find me monitoring both the PPFMA and CMRG repeaters simultaneously.
Let me be clear that we are lucky to have a spot which provides the kind of coverage as the Cheyenne Mountain antenna farm. The antenna farm on Cheyenne Mountain provides fantastic service for the community in many ways and supporting many agencies and services, including the CMRG repeaters. Even ARES uses the services provided by these antennas. That being said, in my public outreach efforts as PIO and as EC, I have had many people mention the antenna farm. The farm does show up rather prominently on the skyline and that is what people I have spoken to would like to avoid on the summit of Pikes Peak, especially when they are striving to make it a better tourist draw.
My use of the word "eyesore" may have offended some. I get that it is a harsh, disparaging term, but it is a term that I have repeatedly heard the non-radio community use regarding the antenna farm. It was simply my intent to communicate some public feelings and say we need to be sensitive to them. I could have worded my statement better.
So, if my use of the word "eyesore" has offended anyone in the radio community, especially the CPC or CMRG, my sincere apologies. I will try to be more clear in the future.
v/r

If you do attend, I would ask that you show up with your ARES shirt or hat, or ham radio shirt or hat. It should go without saying: Portray us in the most positive light possible and to be respectful and not get in arguments. We want them to want us there.
