Carbonite is also a good backup solution that can help you recover from
a ransomware-type virus.

If you ever get infected, DO NOT pay the ransom. treat it like a hard
drive failure but you don't have to buy a new hard drive. Re-format,
re-install and recover from backup. If you don't have a backup, buy an
external drive and make one, or buy a subscription to Carbonite. If you
don't have a backup then your data isn't important.

 From the article...

/*"It's gotten to the point where we've just automated
this," Flynn said. "If you have online backup with
versioning we can get you right back to the healthy
state you were at before you were infected with this."*/

Worthy competitors to Carbonite are Mozy, and iDrive.

If you get infected, it's because you did something to cause it. Most
usually you were fooled into clicking a link in an email, or downloaded
software from a skeevy site.

Be careful out there. The interwebs is a hostile place. Have a current
backup just in case. An automated online backup is something you can set
and forget. Get you some of that.
