(Sorry for the rhyming and alliteration.)
Late last night I signed up for HamCon. I then went to the reservations page to get a room for two nights. As per the description provided on hamconcolorado.org, It was $99 per night plus $23.80 for Occupancy Tax and Surcharge for the two nights, totaling $221.80 on the Reservation Confirmation (Printable Version).
This morning I received an email confirmation showing:
“Items Purchased” $198.00
5.9% Surcharge $12.86
RESORT FEE $20.00
Subtotal $230.86
Applicable Taxes $13.34
Total $244.20
That is $22.40 more than last night’s “confirmation”.
They had added a $10 per night “Resort Fee” which was never mentioned on the website – either one – HamCon’s or the Keystone Resort reservation page. Plus tax on top of that.
I just called and spoke with a rep from Vail Resorts (email address domain). After a lengthy discussion and walk-through on the web pages, he agreed there is an issue. He is allegedly waiving the Resort Fee for me, and is to send an updated email confirmation showing that.
I asked him to please have all of the reservations to date reviewed and to waive the same Resort Fee which would have been tacked on. “They” may find that they will lose a bit of money by doing that, so I am not holding my breath that they will. So, you may wish to review your confirmation email and compare to what you thought you were paying / was on your initial confirmation page online. If it is different, and they don’t quickly correct the situation, you may wish to call them at 800-355-8471.
While I was writing this email, I did in fact receive a corrected confirmation email. I’m much happier. Although still frustrated that I had to go through that! But I’ll get over it!

P.S. While going through that process, I noticed that the offered rate was still (total) $111 (with taxes) and it was showing availability at that price.
