 It was another beautiful day in the high country, 4 July 2016.
Left St. Elmo Ghost Town going up Road 295 to the Hancock Ghost Town and Alpine Tunnel.
You can visit by going to;
<http://www.ghosttowns.com/states/co/hancock.html> One thing not shown on this web site is that the Alley Belle Mine and adjoining Cabin are now For sale.You can buy your own gold mine. Don't try to visit in the winter time. This road maybe closed.The road has a few pot holes in it but if you are accustom to driving in Colorado Springs, this is a drive in the park.(OHV's are available at St. Elmo so you can get in there without wrecking your car.)There was no snow there and the temp was +60F.The old Town of Hancock (1 mile East of the Continental Divide at 11,000 feet) has only the remains of the old Saloon.Now it is the trail head for the Alpine Tunnel and fishermen who go to the Lake.It is in a deep valley with 2000 foot mountains surrounding it.That gives it about a -10dB rating on my Pedestrian Mobile Quality scale.I got my PRC319 backpack radio on 14061, 50W to a 10 foot whip, and worked:N6SEI Leo SoCA,W6BUX Gurbux SoCA,W0PV John FL,NK6A Don SoCA on his new KX2,WA3WSJ Ed PA was 33N,K6YK John Stockton CA,N7QR Russ OR,K1LTJ Al CT.I got RBN hits from KH6, VE6 and VE7.No reports from EU.Lots of wild Columbine flowers along the road.Returned to St. Elmo for needed refreshments.The trail to Agnes Valle Falls has been closed and there isn't even a sign along the road marking its location.5 members of a family were killed there a few years ago by a rock slide.You can see a picture of winter operations in St. Elmo at my QRZ page:<http://www.qrz.com/db/w0rw/>I was in front of the Savard Building.73Paul w0rw
