THANKS to everyone that made this installation possible. And to everyone
that spent time getting and keeping the repeaters up and running! Especially
Dave WA6IFI and the Chief Cook and Bottle Washer Joe AG0D. Sure wish I was
close enough to help.
I remember the first time the CMRG Board thought about D-Star and decided
to wait before trying to get and install a repeater. Glad that about a year
latter that the board reconsidered and got and installed the repeater on
top of Cheyenne Mountain. Thanks to the CMRG board!
A special thanks to the PPRAA for their financial assistance in the past.
Without them the first installation might not have ever happened!

Dave N0EOP

On this beautiful Thanksgiving morning, I would like to give thanks to ALL
the great CMRG members who have volunteered countless hours (including
taking time off from work), wear and tear on their personal vehicles, and
talents to making 2012 an extremely successful year. Not only am I
appreciative of the members, but also of those "unsung" folks. These are the wives,
loved ones, family, and others who stay at home while members work extremely
long hours in preparing equipment for installation and then the
installation. Members - be sure to thank your "people in the background" who have
"volunteered" their time as you were occupied working on CMRG projects.
CMRG is not a selfish organization. We don't do all this work for
ourselves: we do it for others and the Amateur Radio Community. The D-STAR
installation on Methodist Mountain is a cooperative effort between CMRG and the
Crestone Amateur Radio Emergency Services (CARES). CARES provided the need
for the installation and majority of the equipment. CMRG provided the rack
space and expertise. Jointly, we provided the "butt ton" of labor to
perform the installation. Today, the Amateur Radio operators in the Colorado
Springs area will be using the 147.345 repeater to support the annual
Salvation Army Thanksgiving Dinner program which provides a great holiday meal to
those in need.
As I sit down to my Thanksgiving meal today with family, I will remember
those CMRG members who have helped to make this possible, their families and
loved ones, and the members of our armed forces who always "have our six."
I hope you will do the same.
Happy Thanksgiving,
Dave Novotny, WA6IFI

Please pass to everyone.
I would like to give heartfelt thanks to everyone who has had a hand in
completing the install of the third D-STAR system serving southern Colorado.
KD0QPG located at 11,700 feet on Methodist Mountain five miles south of
Salida, Colorado is on the air.
Perry N0WMZ and I were able to install and configure the router last night
and with the help and expertise of Mike KC0LNO and Rich AB0VO, test and
evaluate that all of the services were running and ultimately obtaining
registration on the US trust server. Our first DX contact on the system was
with James N0XIA in Orlando, Florida using CallSign routing. Linking with
KC0CVU-B was also accomplished.
On the way down the mountain we enabled DPRS and you can get a good idea
of the coverage of the repeater to the north and east as we made our way
home from Salida by looking at this link.

This install is the culmination of a cooperative effort between the
Crestone Amateur Radio Emergency Services and the Cheyenne Mountain Repeater
Group. Phil W0OJ is instrumental in providing the necessary radio, controller
and antenna. Without his efforts this would not have happened this year.
Dave WA6IFI, procured rack space in a fantastic commercial building with a
dynamite tower. The kind folks at SKYWERX are providing us a static IP and
bandwidth gratis. There have been a butt ton of hours spent on this
project and people have made some pretty huge sacrifices’ to get this on the
mountain.
Please give the following folks a pat on the back for their hard work,
long hours and patience!
