Does anyone happen to know if there is repeater coverage at Sylvan Lake State Park, south of Eagle and sort of between Vail and Aspen? The Colorado Connection map for their 147.345 machine in Vail looks like it might just barely work...To answer my own question, here is what I found. The yurts (semi-permanent tents) at this park are in a valley about half-way between Vail and Aspen. I was able to hear and key up the 147.345 machine in Vail, but was not able to get enough audio into it with my 75 Watt car radio to make contact. I didn't try the Glenwood Springs machines, but that may have been a mistake because the view in that direction is not blocked by as many mountains.
I was able to get APRS digipeater coverage practically everywhere between Colorado Springs and Dotsero. I sent a "safe arrival" message to my daughter from the yurts via an APRS message to the 73S gateway to Twitter. I suppose that digital signaling is more reliable than FM voice in this situation.
Thanks.
