Dear Family & Friends,

(Special note to Mike Daniels, Chief Meteorologist at KOAA, Channel 5/30:
Mike, I assume you may have already seen the attached link but just in case
you haven't, I hope you will take a look at it. It was filmed by KOAA. It
may already be on the KOAA web site. I haven't looked for it there. Thanks
to all at KOAA for the great coverage. Dick Thompson).

I received the following (see bottom of this e-mail) from Joe Wilkowski
(K8FC) whom many of you know. To those non-ham radio friends, Joe is a ham
who used to live in Cotapaxi, CO and now resides in Brockport, NY.

It is a 5 day time lapse video of the Waldo Canyon fire and will give all of
you a good idea of what we have been seeing here in Colorado Springs. From
the looks of things, it looks like it was filmed from up near the USAFA, as
the Academy Chapel can be seen in the video at the base of the mountains.
I-25 can be seen with traffic moving in both directions. It is about 15
miutes in length and covers June 23 thru June 28th. Tuesday, June 26 is the
day the fire "exploded" and burned 346 residences. The event is very
noticeable in the video.

As of the 8 A.M. news conference this morning, containment is still at 45%,
but Hwy 24 will be reopened later this morning, many of the mandatory
evacuations have been lifted, but some are still on pre-evacuation orders
(in other words, be ready to get out quickly if things take a turn for the
worse). Residents who lost their homes will be allowed back in the area to
see the damage and those who didn't lose their home will be able to go in
and see what state their residences are in, and take other items out if they
want to. Everybody who is allowed in the area must show proof they live
there and lookie-loos are not allowed. Duh!

The full containment date is still July 16th, but that could change. It's a
moveable date as they call it. The news media has done an incredible job of
keeping us informed, and most local stations have returned to normal
programming with Info crawls at the bottom of the screen. They break in as
necessary. So, life is slowly getting back to normal. Not completely, for
sure, but slowly. It will be years before life is normal for many of the
victims of this disaster.

Mary & I thank God for keeping us and our family, safe.

Dick
W0RAA

PS: If you received this in a previous e-mail, you can delete this one. I
am sending it to locals who surely are aware of the events that have
unfolded here in Colorado Springs this past week, but may not be aware of
the 5 day time la[ps video link below.

This is time lapse from the day the fire started over the next 5 days.
Pretty dramatic stuff.
