Dan,
I just got through taking a class on FD at the Contest University in
Dayton. To minimize the points they said you should start with a station on
phone for both twenty and forty meters. Then the next two stations should be
cw on twenty and forty meters. After that a twenty meter RTTY station.
Then start filling in other bands. Opps I forgot that you need a GOTA station
on twenty meters phone. They recommended using dipole antennas at least 1/2
wave above ground and orientated end to end. They said that the 27A group
in Maryland does it this way and has not intermod problems and makes at
least 9000 contacts every year.
I passed out Colorado QSO party handouts today.

Dave

Steve,

As Pam said, PPRAA will be operating FD along with the Monument Fire
Protection District amateur radio club. The plan is to run 3F using all
battery powered. 3F removes the 24-hour setup rule :-)

Exactly what we are building Saturday depends on attendees. We do have
2 Moxon antennas we are working on which we expect to tune one for
20mtrs CW/Digital and the other 20-SSB. I have parts for one additional
band (10? 15?). Another antenna that is being worked on is a multi-band
curtain, but one of the two working on that is out of town so we are
uncertain if we will be setting that up and testing it. There will be
parts for building various VHF antennas as well.

We are hoping people will bring parts (or kits) to make additional wire
antennas. So if you have something you want to make and have most or
all the parts please feel free to drop by. It starts at 8:00AM, I'm not
sure when it ends but I know I have to leave by 12:00.

Antenna building and FD will both be located at Fire Station #1, which
is about a mile West of the Monument Safeway (and Starbucks for that
matter) on Highway 105.

I think you would be very happy with a SteppIR. I have the vertical
(BigIR) and its tuning follows the radio, I wish I had the beam instead!

For a rig, you just should load up on Megafest raffle tickets! (K3-100,
Flex-3000, ID-880H, IC-92AD)

Dan - W0RO
PPRAA Megafest Chairman.
