Mike,
I am not sure why you decided not to run my article in the latest Zero
Beat? Is there now a decision on what articles to print in Zero Beat? If
somehow I offended someone I am sorry.

This was intended to say goodbye to all of my friends that I have made
over the last thirty hears in the Pikes Peak area. All of the field days
both up in Teller County with Dean, Wes and the rest of the gang and those
down here in the flat lands. Say thinks for letting me participate in all of
the races “Above the Clouds” on Pikes Peak. For all those that I met in the
MS-150 races. For all those that I met in the triple crown of running,
THANKS. THANKS to all of those that I met in the Salvation Army dinners.
Thanks, for all those that I met while helping with Skywarn. Thanks for the
opportunity to assist Jim W0EM (AB0UK) with starting the Colorado QSO
Parties. I look forward to working a lot of you from Indiana. Thanks to all
the folks that I have helped at antenna parties. For all those that helped
me with my station when I have had problems. Thanks to all those that I
worked with in the Pikes Peak Chapter of 10-10, THANKS. For those that
helped me set up APRS station, THANKS. For those that have worked me in any
of the digital modes that I have tried over the years. For those that I have
hunted foxes with, I enjoyed every minute of it (even when I was lost and
not even close to the fox. For everyone in the PPARES and EPCRACES group
that have taught me so much about emergency communications. Thanks for the
opportunity to be on various committees through out the Piles Peak area.
Thanks for the opportunity to use some of the best repeaters and meet folks
from all over the US. Thanks to the CMRG for putting up with me as a board
member and for allowing me to tag along to some very scenic mountain tops.
THANKS for all of the great club meetings and all of the presenters. For all
of the Zero Beat Editors (the newsletters just keep getting better over the
years). I know that I am missing a lot. But after thirty years in the area I
have met so many hams and have so much that I will remember.

Since this mail list reaches almost everyone that the Zero Beat would be
sent to, I decided that since for some reason my article was not included in
the Zero Beat, I would disseminate this myself.

To all that I have known 73. To all of the silent keys that I have known,
73 and I look forward to seeing all of you again.

TNX & 73,
Dave N0EOP

Subject: Zero Beat Article

Mike I would like to submit the following for the next Zero Beat.

QST ----- QST ---- QST ---- QST

It is with a very sad heart that I write this article. I am moving to
Richmond, IN. on 23 April. I will be living with my sister and helping her
pay the bills. Maybe with my Army retirement, my SSN and her pay check we
will be able to pay all of the bills. The Army assigned me to Ft. Carson in
August 1980 (WOW Thirty Years). Since that time I have enjoyed a lot of
events and meetings with the PPRAA. I have also had the opportunity to meet
and make a lot of very good hams. I remember having organizational meetings
at Rossie and Russ’s. Some of them I have participated in Public Service
events such as the Hill Climb. Some of the club members I also know from
ARES and El Paso County RACES. Summer picnics have always been very
enjoyable (I could do my 2 favorite things: Operate Ham Radio and EAT). If
anyone had ever told me that I would be eating BBQ at Dirty Woman Park, I
don’t think that I would have believed them. Field days were also another
favorite activity of mine. I enjoy working any event (contest) that allows
me to compete with others. Contesting has always had a spot in my heart.
Starting the Colorado QSO Party with W0EM Jim was a lot of fun. Operating in
it was even more fun. The MEGAFEST has always taken priority when I am in
the area (wonder how many raffle tickets I have bought over thirty years?).
I fondly remember being the net control (some time we would have over 100
checkins) on Sunday afternoons for the Pikes Peak Chapter of 10-10
International, this would have been around 1984. We used to have regular
checkins from as far away as Australia and New Zeeland. I never made a trip
up on top of Pikes Peak with Doc and others to operate and give bonus
points. Thanks to all that have given presentations at the club meeting (I
have enjoyed each and every one of them). Zero Beat editors and
contributors, THANKS. I have had the opportunity since I was first licensed
in 1960 to read a lot of club’s newsletters. ZERO Beat is the best that I
have ever read!

When I get to Richmond,IN. I plan on being very active with the local ham
club. Maybe I’ll even be able to start some of the great things that you all
have allowed me to participate in here. I plan on keeping my membership and
from time to time I might drop an article to be included in Zero Beat as to
how I am doing. I plan on using the CMRG IRLP on 147.345 to talk with folks
in this area. I will be getting some wire in the air so that I can operate
HF and hope that I can have the good luck to work many of you on the bands.
I will continue to participate in contests as often as I can, so listen for
a weak signal from Indiana. I will give the Colorado QSO Party a try every
year and hope to hear some of you on the air. I will always be checking for
openings on 10 meters. My favorite band.

If any of you ever get out east and are near Richmond,IN (it is right on
I-70 and the Indiana - Ohio line), please contact me. I will only be about
35 miles from the Dayton Hamvention. Once I get back there I’ll be
monitoring most of the local repeaters. Or you can give me a call at
765-935-9611 or 719-641-1863. It would be GREAT to see you and I am always
good for at least a cup of coffee!

TNX for all of the GOOD times & 73,
Dave N0EOP
