Dear fellow hams:
I have recently upgraded my amateur Novice license from 35+ yrs. ago and I am now a general class amateur. I haven't had any gear for many years now and just recently purchased a vintage Kenwood TS-830S HF transceiver from Ebay and the seller lives in Colorado Springs. He is not a ham and acquired the radio thru an estate sale and did not know the operating condition of the rig. Did I purchase an expensive "Boat Anchor"?
This is where I need help from a fellow ham radio operator who would be willing to connect my radio to an active antenna and make sure it works properly. I picked it up yesterday at the seller's home in Colorado Springs and he told me I could bring it back if I wasn't satisfied or if the radio didn't work. He has given me 7 days to return the radio so I need to know if all is well before next Friday June 11th.
My wife and I will be in Parker, CO at our daughter's home most of the summer and I can be reached via cell phone at 513-404-9635 or at my daughter's phone 303-805-2984. Please help me if you can before next Friday the 11th. I will be most happy to travel to wherever I can obtain an antenna to check out this transceiver. I went to Ham Radio Outlet today hoping they would check it out for me, only they suggested I contact some of the Amateur Radio Clubs for assistance.
I lived in the Denver area over 22 years and now am retired and living in Wickenburg, AZ during the winter months and wherever else during the hot AZ summers.
Any help from anyone out there will be greatly appreciated.
Thanking you in advance,
Charles T. Eaton, KA0PLZ
PS: I will see you all at the Megafest in Monument July 17th, 2010
