Listed below are a couple web sites that I was asked to send to the
reflector, last night, at the PPRAA meeting.

The first one is a free ham magazine that may be going under because they
have not been able to get some advertising support. Too bad, as it's a
pretty good little eMagazine. Subscribe to it (no charge) and download the
issues they have available. Some good reading in them.

The second one contains an article that I wrote a few months ago and
submitted to them. Doug, our honored President, asked me to post the site
in the event that some may be interested in it as an introduction to
contesting. The article is on page 8.

Contesting software:

Writelog: An old standard software package that has worked quite well for me
over the years. The price is $35 and upgrades (if you feel you need them)
are $35 a year. I feel this package is well worth what they charge for it.
The website for Writelog is: www.writelog.com. It is my program of choice.
There is a Writelog reflector on Yahoo!.groups and the members are very
helpful.

N1MM Logger: This is another very capable program. It is a free software
package and is excellent. Support is good and the help files are easy to
get to. There is a slight learning curve, but not complicated to learn.
Both programs (Writelog and N1MM) allow you to lay the various windows out
on your monitor in such a fashion that is pleasing to you. Like Writelog,
there is an excellent users group on Yahoo!.groups. There is also a N1MM
Logger-Digital group that may be of interest to some. I belong to both, as
well as the Writelog reflector. The website for N1MM is www.n1mm.com.

I can be of assistance if you need it, to get either one of these programs
working for you. Having a radio that has CAT control is beneficial. It
certainly simplifies things during a contest.

Other helpful sites include:

http://aa5au.com/hamradio/hamradio.html - Don Hill, AA5AU, is very well
known in contest circles. He has a great website that specializes in
Writelog and RTTY contesting. His "Getting started on RTTY" should be
printed out and kept as a reference in your shack.

Scot Herrick, K9DJ, has an excellent site that offers assistance with
setting up Writelog. It contains a wealth of information and will contain
something that will benefit everybody. The website is at
http://k9jy.com/writelog/initial-setup/. Check it out.

Contesting on Wikipedia is another excellent helpful site. Go to
http://wiki.contesting.com/index.php/Main_Page. Again, lots of good
information.

A contest calendar by WA7BNM is at http://www.hornucopia.com/contestcal/.
Current contests are usually listed in the 8 day segment, and also a link to
contest rules that you may be interested in checking out.

That's enough right now. If you are looking for something more specific,
maybe I can help you find it.

Dick
