First off I want to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!
Upcoming Events for the next few weeks:
Jan 2 - Help move Frank's, KO0R, equipment to a storage shed.
Frank's heart attack forced him to move to assisted living.
Please meet at Bear Creek Park (South from Hwy24 and 21st
Ave) 8:30 AM
*We need a lot of help* with this please send me an email,
or call, if you will be helping.
I will post a talk-in frequency once I get someone to act
as talk-in.
Jan 2 - PPRAA Breakfast
Jan 13 - PPRAA General meeting
Jan 16 - Winter Hamfest - Fort Collins - help selling raffle tickets
Jan 18 - Board Meeting
With the new contest awards program starting, I thought I would make
mention of a few contest taking place over the next couple weeks:
Dec 26-27 - South Dakota QSO Party. (I need SD confirmed for both
LoTW and eQSL this year)
Jan 1 - ARRL Straight-Key Night
Jan 2-3 - ARRL RTTY Roundup
There are plenty more, see ARRL at:
http://www.arrl.org/contests/update/?issue=2009-12-23 for others.
Contest and Emergency Communication as well as Interacting with
non-contesters: If you will be contesting please review the ARRL
contesting Good Practices at
http://www.arrl.org/contests/hf-faq.html. Take special notice to
section 5 "Interacting with non-contesters". Contesting has been
characterized by many in Emergency Communications as a good practice
for operating for long periods of time getting a simple message
through correctly in a high-noise, fast-paced environment. At the
same time it is also frowned on by others both in Emergency
Communications and those not in Emergency Communications. Always
maintain good operating practices which ALWAYS means maintaining an
awareness for emergency traffic.
Kids Day: Another activity you may want to participate in, occurring
January 4th (http://www.arrl.org/kidsday/).
Reminder: Jan 2 - MARC VE Session - Woodland Park Library - 10:00AM
Remember, if you are involved in any of these activities or other
Amateur Radio activities feel free to write an article and submit it to
the Zero-Beat editor!
73,
Dan - W0RO
PPRAA Secretary
