One additional thing you might consider if you are in a position to 
install from scratch is installing VMware ESXi 4.0.  It is free, 
although it will ask you for a license.  I have not installed ESXi 4.0 
on a workstation, so I'm not sure how the graphics are but maybe someone 
else on the reflectors has and can chime in.  I do use ESXi 4.0, ESX 4.0 
and previous version of VMware for servers and have been very impressed.

I thought the articles were well done with one giving a nice enticing 
overview of amateur radio, and the APRS article was really good.
