As some of you may have heard, I will be taking over the PPRAA Contest
Plaque Award for the club, starting immediately.
There will be changes in the program, with specific classifications that you
can enter and not be put into a category that you don't want to be put in.
Those categories may include:
SO AB LP
SO AB HP
Multi-Single LP
Multi-Single HP
There will be a Plaque awarded for the overall Highest Points submitted for
the year. A certificate will be issued for 2nd & 3rd place.
Also in the works is a Plaque that you can win for submitting points in a
contest that total One Million points and can be accrued over a period of
time, not just in a year. You can win it once only and you are only
competing against yourself and how badly you want it. The GMCC (Grand Mesa
Contesters of Colorado) have the Top Gun Award. We will have a different
name for ours, but everybody is eligible to win it. Just submit a total of
one (1) million points and then apply for it. You must be a paid-up member
of PPRAA when you submit your scores.
I will be submitting these suggestions to the PPRAA Board, but I feel
confident they will be happy to see some changes and get happy to see a fun
activity in the club.
So, if you participate in the ARRL 10 Meter Contest this weekend (Rules are
at: http://www.arrl.org/contests/rules/2009/10-meters.html), please e-mail
me with your score. Include the number of logged contacts and any pertinent
information you fell will be needed. You can operate SSB or CW. You can
operate High or Low Power. You can operate QRP. There will not be a QRPp
classification nor will there be a School category. You must make an effort
to qualify. One or two pre-arranged QSO's for a contact will not count, and
besides, pre-arranged contacts are not legal in any contest. So jump in
with both feet and join the fun.
The 10 meter band may come to life if we toss enough RF into the sky. There
are times when it's dead (or appears to be dead) and all of a sudden
somebody calls CQ and it comes to life. Lots of hams just sit on 10 meters
and wait for something to happen. So, call CQ Test and make things happen.
You never know, you might just make a pretty good score.
I will be tossing out suggestions for this award in the very near future. I
hope that the new format will get some of you to start doing some contesting
and have some fun. If anybody has any questions, please feel free to ask.
I can be e-mailed at dickt at w0raa.com or on the landline at 520-0288. Don't
call before 8 AM or after 9:45 PM.
Looking forward to seeing you in the 10 meter contest this weekend. And
let's all come up with some ideas to keep the Contest Award program healthy,
and workable for all. In the meantime, if you have any ideas, drop me an
e-mail.
73,
