Today we held a planning meeting for the PPRAA 2009 hamfest, which is
tentatively planned for July 11, 2009. The meeting was attended by me, Dan
Scott W0RO, his wife Pam, and Chris Stark K7YMI. I received several e-mails
from others that were unable to attend the meeting but are still able to
help.
The application for the facility rental has been submitted and should be
approved by Lewis-Palmer School District. Probably the most important thing
at this time is to select the grand prize and get it purchased and in our
possession so we can proceed to sell raffle tickets.
CMRG donates raffle prize: At the CMRG meeting this past Saturday 10/25,
the CMRG voted to donate a radio to the PPRAA to be used as the second place
prize in the raffle. Thanks very much to the CMRG for continuing to donate
a prize to the raffle, as they've been doing for several years now. The
prize they're donating for second place is an Icom ID-800H D-STAR-capable
VHF/UHF transceiver. Great prize!
Although the minutes of the last PPRAA meeting held on October 8 haven't
been printed yet that I'm aware of, I'll mention that the PPRAA voted to
purchase raffle prizes (1st and 3rd prizes) up to $3,000 in value. The
members present felt that having a really nice radio as the grand prize
would go a long way to getting more raffle ticket sales and raising more
money for the club. So some suggestions were made to raffle off a radio
such as the Elecraft K-3, Kenwood TS-2000X, Icom IC-746PRO, Icom
IC-756PROIII, Yaesu FT-950 or the Yaesu FT-2000. These are examples of
radios in the price range that we would consider raffling off. Third prize
suggestions were something on the order of an HT, perhaps the Icom IC-91AD
radio, a D-STAR-capable HT.
Since Dennis wasn't at the meeting, I'll ask now because I don't know the
answer: Dennis, has the raffle license been ordered yet?
I expect to get the facility locked in this week, the raffle prizes ordered
and picked up this week, and the raffle license in hand, so we can get the
raffle tickets ordered and begin selling them as quickly as possible, and as
many as possible. And I'd like to ask who is current on their Games Manager
certification?
Given the increased investment in the raffle prizes this year, I am
definitely expecting a commensurate increase in the investment of time by
our members in helping to make this hamfest a continued success. This is
not a one-man job. There are plenty of tasks to take care of. Please
volunteer to help!
I'll be scheduling another hamfest planning meeting very shortly and letting
everyone know about it.
Thanks
Rob
