[PPRAANet] Special Event Station(s)

Mike, WV7T and all,

You had put together a list of suggestions for Special Event stations for the PPRAA.  That was great of you to do that.  We certainly need more radio activity in the club.  This is a good way to do that.

Below I'm listed those from your list that are of interest to me and have added comments to some.  Below that list is one or two more suggestions.  In my estimation Special Event stations should be about something that people outside the local area would associate with the greater Colorado Springs area or at least the state of Colorado.


Armed Forces Day (Third Saturday in May  )
Armistice/Veterans Day (November 11)
Memorial Day - Last Monday of  May
Air Force vs (Other military Services) Football game
Megafeast June
ARRL Convention (Colorado) June  09
PPRAA Founding Date  (1930s?)
Amateur radio official founding date
Balloon Classic - (last weekend September)
El Paso County Fair - July 19-26, 2008
Territory Days (Old Colorado City) - May
Garden of the Gods established - 1907
Pikes Peak Hill Climb - July 20, 2008  --  Should not conflict with ARES coverage.
POW/MIA recognition day

The list would need to be pared down to something that is doable.  It would be nice to have at least one per quarter.

Added:

Colorado Sand Dunes  --  This is obviously some distance drive.....but I'll take care of that for as many people and equipment as my van will carry.  It would have to be a day trip (not overnight) for me.

Pikes Peak area.  --  In honor of the mountain, Garden of the Gods, C/S and other attractions including General Palmer.


That's my take at the moment.
