All:
Just to be clear, the list below came from California (Sacramento Valley) by
way of Hawaii and is not a widespread agreed to usage of 2 meters with
respect to identifiers ("Bravo") or usage ("Red Cross", "Skywarn", etc).
Here in Colorado, the 2 meter frequency use plan promulgated by the Colorado
Council of Amateur Clubs (which is derived from the ARRL band plan with
Colorado's channel spacing applied) makes no attempt to assign channel
designators. Additionally, there are a couple of available simplex
frequencies missing from the California list-- and, of course, the last
frequency listed is not a 2 meter frequency at all.
Insofar as 'usage' goes: in the Pikes Peak region, Skywarn operations can
usually be found on the 146.97 repeater; El Paso County SAR can be found
anywhere the mission requirements dictate-- and I don't know what "Truckers"
means.
Please see either the CCARC's web page:
http://www.ccarc.net/images/CCARC_FUP_144MHz_revB.pdf
or Bob Witte, K0NR's wonderful article on the subject of 2 meter frequencies
at:
http://www.k0nr.com/rwitte/2m_frequencies.html
Pikes Peak ARES used 146.55 and 146.58 for years anytime a simplex tactical
operation was warranted. This 'informal' use gradually developed to a more
formal, written agreement BETWEEN emergency services groups so they 1) could
avoid bumping into each other during concurrent separate events or 2) could
work together during joint events. Currently, both the El Paso County
Emergency Radio Plan and the Colorado (ARES) Radio Plan (COPLAN) list the
following for El Paso County RACES:
146.580 Primary Simplex (shared w/ Pikes Peak ARES)
146.490 Secondary Simplex (shared w/ Pikes Peak ARES)
146.550 Third Tactical (shared w/ Pikes Peak ARES)
And the following for Pikes Peak (District 14) ARES:
146.580 Simplex, Tactical (shared w/ El Paso County RACES)
146.475 Simplex 2, Public Service Events
147.480 Simplex 3, Tactical
147.510 Simplex 4, Teller
146.490 Simplex 5 (shared w/ El Paso County RACES)
146.550 Simplex 6 (shared w/ El Paso County RACES)
144.220 USB
There are several 'rag chew' informal groups that hang out on a 2M simplex
frequency in the Springs--- several of us used to use 147.48 (then we
switched to 147.42) Of course, The PPRAA simplex next was indeed held on
146.58 for quite some time.
And, to the point of Sharon's original question: Yes, it would be in bad
form to hold a net on 146.52

I thought 146.520 was the calling frequency and that once you made contact
with your party the gentleman's agreement was that you move to an alternate
simplex frequency to continue your QSO. If I remember correctly, the PPRAA
net
used to be on 146.580. Is there another net which might be using the
frequency in the absence of the PPRAA net?

Hi Sharon,
You are correct on all accounts. A lot of areas use the 146.520 as a
local simplex frequency so that it is used and so that someone traveling
can
find someone on the frequency. The only ones that I know of that use 146.580
is
the El Paso County RACES when and as needed. Her is a list of frequencies
and
their uses that I found on the Internet:
