I probably won't make this picnic due to the conflict I have on that day
already so we'll hold off on the hamfest planning meeting unless Doug or
someone else wants to go over things. But it doesn't mean we should stop
thinking about it or thinking about what you might be able to do to help out
this year. I've already been in contact with the Lewis-Palmer POC to start
finding dates that are available.

Some things to think about:

Suggested date for hamfest: Due to Hamcon 2009 at end of May, a June
hamfest might be too soon, so I'm proposing a hamfest in July.

Suggested prizes: Some thoughts already suggested: a D-STAR radio, or the
more familiar compact all-band, all-mode mobile like an FT-857D.

As far as volunteers helping out, I'll need people for at least these
functions, maybe more to come:

Working with facility to secure rental.
Lining up the food vendor.
Raffle ticket printing.
CMRG liaison.
Hamfest flyer production and distribution (multiple people for
distribution).
Publicity (can use multiple people for this one for newspapers, ham radio
publications, ARRL, ham clubs in CO, etc).
Applying for ARRL sanctioning.
Vendor recruiting (again multiple people to contact potential vendors).
Identifying topics and recruiting speakers for possible forums (multiple
people).
Table sales.
Door prizes (multiple people for this one too).
Prize ordering and pickup.
Talk-in.
Friday evening table setup.
Making signs for posting at the school.
Working the club table, announcing at hamfest (multiple people).
Raffle ticket printing (multiple people).
Admission ticket sales (multiple people).

VEs will also be required for the license session, and you'd be coordinating
with Jackie AC0CA as the hamfest gets closer. If you're not a VE but want
to be, start working on getting your ARRL credentials now. Actually the VE
team is looking to recruit additional volunteer examiners, so we really do
want you to consider getting the VE credentials. It's a simple process.
Contact Jackie AC0CA at jcornwell at peoplepc.com for details, or go to
http://www.arrl.org/arrlvec/ to find out how to get accredited. General
licensees can test the Technician candidates, and Extras can test all
candidates. And this is an ideal incentive for Technician licensees to
upgrade!
