For the first time in more than 30 years 2 way communication has been
accomplished over the top of Pikes Peak by 2 Gonset Communicator II's.
Running 4 Watts into a beam on each end, tonight, this very night, 2 way AM
voice communication was established on 145.35 MHz right over the top.
The stations involved were w0rw near Cripple Creek and KG0SS in Colorado
Springs, CO.
FYI the FCC shadow loss charts (47 CFR Ch.1, Para 80.769, p. 126) shows
the VHF path loss to be about 30 dB.
The feat was copied by the members of the Gonset Net. KC0EIK, Gary, also was
able to get over the top using a Japanese radio. Both ends were struggling
with adjacent channel repeater and aircraft interference, (Gonsets have really
wide receivers).
