No, it's not time to scrounge around for an article or joke or news item for the October issue deadline -- yet. But I do have a question I'd like to ask all of you.
Many times when I have talked or listened to older hams, they get a look of wonder and excitement when they tell about their first experience with radios and antennas. From little bits and pieces of what I have heard, there is a story -- in fact many stories -- to be told. So, tell me how you got involved with amateur radio. What was your first exposure to the amateur radio virus? What sparked your curiosity and fueled your enthusiasm? This is only about first times, and I'm sure you all remember them, so share them with me and I shall share them with the rest of the amateur radio community in the next issue of 0-Beat.
See? You just knew there had to be a catch.
Email your memories and stories to me at ac0c0 at arrl.net by 09/25/06. Don't worry about dazzling me, just tell me what it was like. I'll provide the polish if you provide the gems of wisdom and experience.
73, as always...
