Last night I attended the planning meeting for the Ute District's fall
camporee titled "Jamboree On The Air". I would like to get another
person from PPRAA to help me during this planning phase. I really don't
like this to be single threaded with such a large event this year.

This is the 49th Jamboree On The Air (JOTA).The Ute District (part of
BSA's Pike's Peak Council) has moved their Fall camporee to coincide
with JOTA, this means we have an opportunity to introduce about 200
11-18 year olds to the various aspects of Ham radio.

Although not all activities will be Amateur Radio related, many are.
Here are my notes and comments about the various events:

----
EOSS Activity:
Observe some hands-on: High Altitude balloon launch with scout payload
and ham payload. This is a Ham radio payload consisting of ATV, APRS
and 2-mtr repeaters. Generally the payload will reach 85,000 to 100,000
feet asl so will have a very nice radio footprint.
Concerns: Payload weight for scout payload. Weather/wind.
----
HAM Radio Activity:
Hands-on. Getting the scouts "On the air" with other scouts locally,
nationally, and around the world.
Concerns: Will there be enough radio stations to handle 200+ scouts and
100 adults?
----
Electronics Activity:
Hands-on. Built something electronic. Maybe repeatable (prototyping
board?). Suggestion was an oscillator with Morse Code introduction.
Concerns: Help, logistics, kits, cost
----
Radio Tag Game:
Game Using FRS radios play a form of Marco-Polo / hide-and-seek. Some
scout thought of this one, I'm curious.
Concerns: No clue what this is. Number of FRS radios (most scout troops
have a stock of these)
----
Signal Flags Activity:
Hands-on. Using Semaphore this time. This is work in progress
Concerns: None yet.
----
GPS/Geocaching Activity:
Hands-on. Find a series of hidden caches using GPSr.
Concerns: Loaning GPS units
----
Intro to orienteering:
Hands-on. short (circle) intro to orienteering
Concerns: none
----
Orienteering:
Hands-on. map and compass
Concerns: none
----
Flag Retirement:
Observe/Hands-on: Correct method of retiring the US flag. Flags
needing to be retired accepted
Concerns: None
----
Moon Landing Game:
(no clue)
----
Scavenger hunt:
A list of items to be found by scout patrols. Adult help may have some
of the items
Concerns: none
----
Movie Night
We did "Frequency" a couple years ago. We are looking for other good
ideas. We have suggestions of "The Right Stuff" and "October Sky's". Of
course "ARRL- Amateur Radio Today" will be shown
Concerns: Weather, projector
----

If you can assist with planning or any of these activities, please send
me an email!

Thanks and 73,
Dan
