Subject: [PPRAANet] VO1NO an op on VC2W
VC2W
A team of Amateurs from Nova Scotia, Quebec and Ontario will activate the
Magdalen Islands for the 2006 Islands On The Air (IOTA) contest, 1200Z
Saturday, 28 July to 1200Z Sunday, 29 July. Located 60 nautical miles north
of Prince Edward Island in Maidenhead grids FN87 and FN97, the Magdalen
Islands are part of the province of Quebec. The team will operate from La
Rocaille school/community centre on one of the larger of the islands, Ile
aux Meules (IOTA NA-038 and Canadian Island QC-004). The callsign will be
VC2W. Operations are scheduled to start on Thursday 27 July, and the team
will tear down on Tuesday 1 August. Following the IOTA contest, several
members of the team plan to activate the other four main islands in the
NA-038 group for the Canadian Islands Certificate Award (CISA), namely
QC-016, QC-017, QC-018, and QC-024. Operations will focus primarily on 20m
SSB around 14.270, but CW may also be used lower in the band. For lighthouse
chasers, while operating from QC-016 and QC-017 the team will park next to
two lighthouses, Can775 and Can772. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ PLEASE NOTE if you
work VC2W/M following the IOTA contest and wish confirmation for a specific
Canadian Island entity (other than QC-004 where our home base is located),
or a specific lighthouse, you MUST indicate clearly on your QSL card that
you worked VC2W/M and indicate which QC-entity (QC-016, QC-017, QC-018, and
QC-024) or lighthouse you wish confirmed. Otherwise, you will get
confirmation for IOTA NA-038 and Canadian Island QC-004!
Outside of the contest, the team also plans to operate on 2 and 6 meters. If
sporadic E is not available, they will attempt random Meteor Scatter QSOs
using WSJT, CQ'ing on the appropriate calling frequencies and indicating
where they are listening. Unfortunately, they will not have real-time
Internet access, and so will be unable to make skeds.
Operators includes Bill - VE1MR, Lynn - VE1ENT, Howard - VE1DHD, Gary -
VE1RGB, Reg - VE2AYU, Fred - VE1FA, Rich - VA1CHP, Al - VO1NO, Shelley -
VE1NOS, and Helen - VA1YL. The team will produce a special QSL card for this
DX-pedition. QSL direct to: Gary Bartlett VE1RGB 24 Lawrence Place
Wellington, NS B2T 1A3 CANADA
