The Pike Special Event was held yesterday from 08:00 until about 13:30
local. Operation took place on 20 meters starting at 09:00 and went until
13:00. We had some antenna issues to begin with but those were worked out
by using a hamstick mounted on a vehicle. We also used a couple of other
antennas including a dipole made from two hamsticks owned by Jim, AB0UK.
The antenna issues were compounded by less than perfect band conditions.
These items made operating challenging, but it was still fun.

We operated two stations, one strictly on 20 meters, and the other moving
around 40, 15, and some PSK on 20. Between the two stations, we logged
around 50 contacts in the four hours.

Even though the conditions were less than perfect, I still thoroughly
enjoyed the event. We had several operators there to help out, and were
visited by several members of the public. This was the first special event
that I have ever coordinated and I want to thank the following people for
the help and support. Without them, this would not have happened and they
truly have my gratitude.

Christopher, NC6T
Jim, AB0UK
Dan, KB0PPM
Paul, N0PWM
Ralph, KI0NK
Troy, WB0LMH
John, N0QJS

I would also like to thank Gina Schaarschmidt who was our liaison with the
Pioneers Museum. She was very helpful in getting all of the support from
the Museum and the Parks Department.

I believe that the PPRAA is a great club and I would like to encourage the
club to participate in these types of events more often. I believe that
operating these special events provides another way to bring both the club
and the amateur radio community in general great publicity. If you have an
idea for a special event, please let me or any of the board members know.
