Here are the results of the Special Event - 200th Anniversary of Zebulon
Pike's
Expedition in 1806 to the mountain we now call 'Pikes Peak'
i left the Crags Campground heading up the Crags trail at 1445Z,
in the first half mile some overhanging 'top hat eating' tree got my top hat.
i could not find it, but did on the way back down.
So all contacts were made on my 7 foot whip which handled the trees better
anyway. My LiIon battery pack lasted the entire trip.
The trail is pretty steep and it took me 3 hours to get up out of the
canyon.
i would take a trail break every hour to configure the radio for the correct
mode,
SSB/CW, then back on the trail. i was in a deep East/West canyon on the trail
which explains my MO, KS and CA, AZ contacts during that time.
Propagation was now very good.
Here are my 20 meter contacts:
W3FF Bud CA SSB
WB0QFU Bruce KS CW
W7GVE Ed AZ CW
WB6HGJ Guy CA CW
WB6QFU Bruce KS again on SSB
N7PPF Jim CA SSB
K0GBZ Roger KS SSB
KO6Z Herb CA CW QRP
WA0ZOG Mike MO SSB
W7QNS Dave WY SSB
K6ERO/5 John AR (on 18157.5 SSB)
N0NTX/m Tom VHF FM
K0HBZ Wes VHF FM
As i climbed up the trail i went through the Spring Climate zone and there
were many wild flowers. i saw a brown bunny and a gray camp robber bird that had
a song like a horse whinny. What a great place to hike.
Temperatures went from 60F to 75F.
