Hi,
Three teams competed in the foxhunt on Saturday, Oct
29, 2005. They were:
1. Mike, K0MLA & Susan, KC0SYA
2. Jim, K0LOB
3. Dave, N0UVR
The winner was Dave, N0UVR, finding the fox in 2 hours
and 39 minutes. Congratulations Dave. He was awarded
"Foxy" the club's foxhunt trophy and has the honor of
organizing the next hunt.
There were at least two unusual features about this
hunt. First, the signal was horizontally polarized
whereas most foxhunt signals are vertically polarized.
Second, the antenna was somewhat directional. An
after market "rubber duckie" antenna was used that had
some gain. Of course, to get the gain the radiation
pattern is somewhat compressed into a flat doughnut
shape. That turned it's side and being placed off the
ground about 30 inches near a rock face caused some
directivity.
The fox was actually located just off Rimwood Drive In
Austin Bluffs Park. That is just Northwest of the
intersection of Austin Bluffs Pkwy and Union Blvd. It
was horizontally inside a dead hollow tree about 30
inches off the ground. For further camoflouge it was
covered by scavenged roots and twigs.
I'm sending pictures of the awarding of "Foxy" to the
PPRAA website webmaster.
Have a great day and 73.
Jim, AB0UK
