Very nice rig.
I had just the opposite experience with my FT-817. Brought it home, hooked
it up to a TH5DX at 40 ft, and worked a ZL. Got a 57 report with 2.5 watts
(battery power). It's all in the antenna your using with QRP. Think of it as
plugging a super-duper stereo system into 2" pm speaker speakers. Doesn't
sound so good until you hook it to some equally super-duper speakers. Then
you can make some tunes (or contacts if your "speakers" are yagi's).
Bottom line: put your efforts into an antenna system, and QRP works great.

Subject: [PPRAANet] radios for sale
Hi Folks, I have a couple of radios for sale that I just don't need anymore
and I am hopeing that there is someone out there in HAM Radio world that
can.
1. Yaesu FT-920, HF/6 meters. Radio does have the MARS/cap mod and it does
work just fine on those freqs as I was a MARS op and did check in on the
MARS
freqs. The radio is perfect in everyway. I've owned it since Mar/03 and
bought it brand new from HRO and the mod was done by them before it was
delivered to me. Sorry but I did not purchase any filters as I just didnt
need
them at the time. Reason for selling the radio is I just bought a Kenwood
TS-2000 which does much more than the FT-920 does. I am asking $900 obo
but
remember it is perfect no scratches was always covered and non-smoking
environment.
2. Yaesu FT-817 the non "ND" model. I bought this from Burghardt also
03/03
and it was used. It also works perfectly in every way and I don't honestly
know if it was ever modded as I never checked. I have the mic/antenna/
nice
case/spare battery case. I also have the LDg Z-11 auto tuner for the 817
and
the one touch tune (ott). I would like to try to sell as a pair and would
like $550.00 obo they do work together as a pair. Reason for selling is I
just couldnt get involved in QRP at all. Just not my idea of amateur
radio.
I've seen a HAM yell holler, scream into an FT-817 and just couldnt make
contact with anyone yet after I left them and went home I turned on my
FT-920
and heard the same contact and turned the beam and called once and they came
back. So the FT-817 just sits in a drawer waiting for the right person to
come
along and ask to buy it.
You can contact me at my email address above: or 719-597-1906. The FT-817
is here at my home and the FT-920 is located at Bob's Electronics 126
Lawrence Ave his call sign is W0rsh and his email address is bobhatch at
sign dot
hotmail.com and his ph is 719-635-9435. We can hook up the 920 at his
place or
here at my place. Just let me know. Also you can contact myself and Bob
Hatch on Simplex 147.585
Thanks
Mike Dassero, NØmud
