Field Day 2005

Field Day is just around the corner. This year the site is back to
the beautiful Sourdough Recreation Area, a private retreat for
current and retired employees of HP and Agilent. If you have had
the opportunity to visit Sourdough, you know what I'm talking about
when I say this is a beautiful and premium location.

Field Day Dates and Times:
   Friday June 24th
        Noon - Start Setup
Evening FOOD and camping if you wish
   Saturday June 25th
        Morning FOOD, final equipment check
Noon, on-the-air with Field Day (24 hour operation)
        Noon FOOD
        Evening FOOD - PotLuck
   Sunday June 26th
        Morning FOOD
        Noon - Off-the-air
Noon - Take down - go home

For those of you with GPS units and are wondering what else you can do
with the thing, we think we solved you problem. We will provide an
introduction to Geocaching, so bring that GPS and join the fun.

During field-day we need to have people 18 and under making contacts,
we receive 20 additional points (up to 100 points total) for each youth
making at least one contact. With that being said, please make sure
you track food wrappers and pop-cans the youth may have in their
possession We want such items leaving someone's possession, it leaves into
a proper location. Oh, that goes for adults too, or even us teens with
40+ years experience. If you see trash, even old partially buried
trash, pick it up so we can leave the place nicer than how we found
it... and it's emasculate now!

There should be a sign-up sheets in each of the station tents with Time,
Operator, and Logger so you can sign up for an operating time slot in
advance. The station sign-up may also have a 4th field for Control
Operator, so if you are so inclined and have an Advanced or Extra class
ticket and willing to be control operator while us with a lessor class
license are on-the-air, the extra bandwidth will be greatly appreciated.

For the person we contact during Field Day it's considerate to make quick,
efficient exchange. This is great practice for emergency communications,
and the station on the "other end" will appreciate it too.

The PPRAA web site has maps and other last minute information concerning
field day. I jotted down some instructions to the
site and added some of that techno-nerd GPS information:

Instructions based on leaving Woodland Park on Highway 67:
RIGHT turn onto "Fairfield" directly across from "Shining
Mountain Gold Club". This means that when you see the
golf course on your left, be ready to turn right.
          (GPS [dd mm.mmm]: N39 01.301; W105 04.154)
LEFT within 50 yards onto Sourdough (which quickly become
gravel), continue under the SOURDOUGH gateway arch
          SIGN-IN at Guard House
            (GPS: N39 01.800; W105 04.080)
IMPORTANT: Fill out the FIELD DAY sign-in sheet.
                           Name, License Plate Number,
Number of Adults, Number under 18
                           Call-Sign/visitor, Check all
that apply: <MARC, PPRAA, ARRL, ARES, RACES>
                           Elected public office, what office?
(Fill in a entries for each amateur radio operator
in the car. The additional operators in your
car would have a line with just: Name, Call-sign
                         and radio organizations.)
If done correctly we will know the number of
operators, visitors, and such amazing facts which
may even gain us a few points.)
     OPEN GATE, move forward, STOP
     SHUT GATE <----<<< *** IMPORTANT ***
CONTINUE following the left "fork in the road"
           PAST "Skating Pond Road"
STOP/PARK where the road turns to the right
          (GPS: N39 01.935; W105 04.046)
