All,
Mark your calendars for the April club meeting this coming Wednesday
the 13th at 7:00 p.m. Our own Al Penney VO1NO will help us find some
direction in life (or at least ham radio) via foxhunting! See the 0-Beat
announcement below for the details! I look forward to seeing you all at the
meeting!

Fox hunting may be outlawed in Great Britain, but its alive and well in
Colorado Springs! No no... I'm not talking about those snobs who chase cute
little foxes around the British countryside on horseback! I mean those
dedicated and incredibly talented Hams who gather once a month to pit their
knowledge, skill and intelligence against the most cunning of all opponents
- the hidden transmitter!
Fox hunting, bunny hunting, "T" hunting - whatever the name, trying to find
hidden transmitters is a terribly fun pastime! You get to roam all over the
county, discovering places you never knew existed. You develop technical
skill in the form of antenna construction, radio propagation and circuit
design, and you interact with a wonderful group of fellow Amateurs who share
common interests. You will get outside to enjoy some fresh air, and maybe
even some exercise. You will develop skills that will enable you to track
down a malicious jammer, stuck microphone, or emergency locator beacon.
And, best of all, you don't even need a license to participate! That's
right - now the wife, husband, kids, next door neighbor - whoever - can
participate!
Not sure how to get started in fox hunting? Not a problem! Just show up at
the April 13 meeting of the PPRAA. Our guest speaker, Al VO1NO, will
describe the history of Radio Direction Finding, what equipment is needed,
the basic techniques to use this equipment, and how you can get involved.
This will be followed up by a practical workshop at 1300, Sunday 17 April
at!!!(location TBD)!!!. Al, Pat KC0MIR and the rest of the "fox hunting
regulars" will demonstrate their equipment. Then, the newcomers will be
paired up with more experienced hunters for a mini-hunt.
So come on out to the April meeting of the PPRAA! I guarantee you won't
regret it!
