Oops I sent this only to PPARES last time.. a hand eye coordination
problem on my mail lists... at least my email knows not to send out 2
copies to the same address even if I don't!
------
Jamboree-On-The-Air is coming up this month. PPRAA is putting together
the event for both the Boy Scout and Girl Scout organizations (if you
have anything to do with either BSA or GSA you know these are two very
different organizations!).
We need many, many more volunteers!
Date: October 16th
Time: 7:30 am - 2:00 pm
Place: Meadow Lakes Airport (South West entry - NOT Judge Orr road)
I'm hoping we have enough in-door room for everything,
but I'm not sure yet.
How many Scouts are expected:
This is not a pre-registration event so the number will very from
around 30 to around 150.
How many volunteers to date:
2 - Al Penney, Dan Scott
How many volunteers do we need?
Way more then 2! Depends on the number of Scouts that show up.
Obviously it's better for have extra people and equipment for fewer.
Antenna Building:
We would like to get an antenna building hands on project going and get
the antenna on the air. Maybe make one in the morning and one on the
afternoon. We need someone that has good communication skills for the
expected age group (8 - 15), volunteers.. Please!! ?
Fox Hunting:
Only a few scout groups tried fox hunting last year, but the groups that
did try loved the event (although someone moving one of the foxes while
it was being tracked wasn't nice). If we can get someone to work with
the scouts, we can try getting a few foxes planed
APRS:
I'm thinking an extra APRS station would be a good idea for seeing the
balloon track.
Backpacking Setup:
If someone is a backpacking, amateur radio operating type of person,
this is a great group to set up a display (either operating or static)
Electronics:
If someone can provide the expertise and time (well,... components too)
I could provide the powered prototyping board. I'm thinking it would be
really neat if we could set up a simple electronics hands on activity..
maybe make a CW tone generator or a transceiver with built in DSP,
IF-shift, notch filters, scope, Collins filtering, and other such thing.
Movie and Radio:
I would like to show ARRL's "Amateur Radio Today" and play the BBC
broadcast. I do not have the final version of "Amateur Radio Today"
and I'm wondering if I could get a copy from someone, please.
Again the event is coupled with Edge of Space Sciences (EOSS). EOSS is
made mostly of Amateur Radio operators all infected with the
high-altitude ballooning disease. The EOSS balloon will be carrying an
amateur radio payload, see http:\\www.eoss.org for more information.
