[PPRAANet] An Excellent Weekend

I just can't contain my enthusiasm over last weekend's field day activities. Of course I missed most of the set up and all the tear down, but it was regretfully so. Rick Brown and the rest of the GOTA team got my children not just interested but nearly chomping at the bit to pursue their licenses. (Does anyone know where I can get a copy of Ride the Airwaves with ALFA & ZULU, it seems to be out of print?) Even dodging the raindrops was fun, sitting in the mess tent chewing the rag in person with some very nice folks. Watching those die hard contesters in the VHF/UHF and HF tents was a real treat, and I got some eyes and hands on experience with stuff I had only read or even just heard about. Outstanding simply outstanding.
I especially want to say thanks to Al Penney, I suspect he would've rather been out there gathering QSOs all weekend, but I barely saw him sit down. Somewhere between all the meet and greet, checking generators, and explaining a few of the finer points of antennas to me (unfortunately I'm still painfully ignorant) I did see him get on HF but only for a few minutes. Then the duties of President would call again (and here I thought it was all glory and a gavel). I gotta say my hats off to you, Al the hundreds of hours you've obviously put into this has paid off, and the proof is that there was nerry a complaint (except the weather).
