Hello everyone,
At Field Day last weekend, I received a suggestion for a slow fist cw net on
2 meters. The proposal was for Friday or Saturday evening, 2000 (8:00 pm)
on 144.080. This would be a great opportunity for those wanting to learn cw
from scratch or for those who want to improve their skills so that they can
hang out with the big guns at the bottom end of 20m! For VHF cw/ssb nets,
it is customary for the net control station to aim his/her beam north at the
top of the hour, and "follow the clock" to allow weaker stations to check in
(ie: point east at 2015, south at 2030 etc.).
Ordinarily I would ask the person who submitted the suggestion to take
charge of the project (whoops - my secret is out - I guess I won't be
getting any more suggestions!), but Mark KC0MJP is well south of Colorado
Springs in a canyon, and wouldn't be well situated to act as net control.
If this is going to work, I need to know the following:
- is there enough interest in a 2m cw net: and
- are there stations willing to act as net control?
Remember, this is down in the cw part of the band, so you will need a
multi-mode transceiver (cw/ssb), as well as a horizontally polarized
antenna.
Please reply by e-mail. If you have other suggestions (such as a 6, 10 or
80 meter net, or perhaps another mode (PSK31, SSTV etc.)), then please let
me know.
