i like to listen to the CSFD Fire calls so i know when the brush fires get
close to my house.
If you have listened to the CSFD dispatcher you know how busy they are and
how noisy it gets on the dispatch channel.
Now that they appear to be keeping 154.13 Mhz on the air (after going
digital),
here is a simple Saturday project for you that will screen out all the
calls except the calls for your local station.
1. Get an FM receiver on 154.13 MHz.
2. Get a Communication Specialists/Selectone DTMF decoder ST-809B,
(They are at www.com-spec.com, click on Selectron), or equivalent.
Put the DTMF decoder on your receiver so the speaker is turned on when
your station gets called. Now you will only hear the calls for the station
code you have programmed. This will reduce the traffic noise by 95%.
3. If you just want the "Fire" calls and not all the "Medical" calls (95% of
all calls are Medicals) just add a single tone decoder to the output of the
DTMF decoder.
i am using an older ST-800 Decoder and it works great.
