All --

For anyone who might be taking, or knows someone who will be taking, the
Technician Class license exam -- the new Technician Class question pool went
into effect yesterday (July 1, 2003), it was released by the Question Pool
Committee National Conference of Volunteer Examiner Coordinators on December
4, 2002.

The actual test still consists of 35 questions, but the question pool base
has increased significantly from 385 to 511 questions.

Test candidates should check their license manuals or study materials to
make sure they are current -- otherwise they could be in for an unpleasant
surprise. The license manual or question pool they are studying from should
state that is will be used in all Technician examinations beginning July 1,
2003, and is intended to be used through June 30, 2007. This information is
generally stated either on the cover or at the bottom of one of the
introductory pages.

The complete question pools and answers (for all class licenses) are
available on the ARRL website at
http://www.arrl.org/arrlvec/pools.html

There are a number of on-line amateur radio exam websites that generate and
grade random practice exams. My personal favorite is
http://www.aa9pw.com/radio/index.html. If preparing for the Technician
Class exam, be sure to indicate the "New Tech (July, 2003)" as it utilizes
the new question pool.
