I am taking the Ham radio class that Frank is teaching. I recently =
searched the internet in an attempt to find a good Morse code tutor, but =
wasn't able to find anything but old DOS based apps, which wouldn't play =
on my computers sound card (running WIndows XP Pro). So last night, I =
decided to write my own Morse code tutor program. I have placed it =
here...
http://www.phillipcentral.com/morsemaster
You may all download it and try it out. I am interested in finding out =
what I can do to improve it.
One of the things that I know needs improving, is the timing stuff. I =
can't find any specifications on how to set the spacing such that the =
speed will reflect "X" words per minute. In an attempt to work-around =
that issue, I set it up so that the user can specify timing for each =
element in milliseconds. By default the timing is as follows...
Dah-Dit spacing: 15 milliseconds
Character Spacing: 500 milliseconds
Word Spacing: 1000 (One second)
Dit Length: 75
Dah Length: 300
This seems to me to sound about right, but as I said earlier, I am =
learning so I don't have a very well tuned ear yet.
I tried to send an email to Frank, but his Bigfoot email seems to be =
over quota. I'll see him in class tomorrow evening, but as I am using =
this for practice, I'd sure like to get some input from you professional =
coders as My daughter and I are both using it to practice with, and we =
don't want to travel too far down the wrong path.
fwiw, I haven't tested it on Windows 9x yet, so if any of you are =
running 9x, I'd appreciate it if you could let me know how it works.
Thanks!
btw, What does 73's mean?
