The 45th Jamboree-On-The-Air (JOTA) is coming up Saturday, October 19th.
JOTA is a scouting event organized by the International Movement of Scouting
office located in Geneva Switzerland. The primary goal is to allow scouts
and guides to compare ideas, events and hopefully make lasting friendships
with other scouts and guides throughout the world. The event is a Boy
Scouting and Girl Scouting event. JOTA is often used by amateur radio
individuals and organizations to promote our hobby by giving these potential
radio operators a "show and tell" of various aspects of amateur radio.
This year the primary setup will be at St. Paul's Catholic Church/Pauline
Memorial Catholic School near the Broadmoor, with an EOSS balloon launch
from Meadow Lake airport (tentative). Power, restrooms, heat, tables and
chairs are available at the church, if all goes as planned.
The biggest volunteer need will be at the church/school. This year many
members of Troop 1 (70 scouts that meet at the school) are working toward
their Radio Merit Badge during the months of September and October, if all
goes as planned we should have a fair turnout. Mike (WV7T) is working on
securing the 1-by-1 call of W0J(amboree), and Kevin Rishavy, Troop 1
Committee member and Amateur Radio Operator, is working at coordinating the
facilities at the school.
Information on the EOSS launch will be forthcoming once things are more
firmly aligned.
