Hello!

(Summery statement: I'm looking for a planning committee)

I'm have started work on Jamboree-On-The-Air 2003, and I'm in dire need of
people to help with planning. The scope of the plan is outside my
expertise, but with good planning, a coordinated effort within our amateur
radio community, I feel we can put together and execute an educational
Search and Rescue, Emergency Service, and an amateur radio related program
that is fun and educational for our area scouts. I'm looking for your
support.

My feelings are that in today's world it is important the youth learn about
and become involved in emergency service training. As such, I would like to
put together an event to correspond with the annual Jamboree-On-The-Air
(JOTA) held the 3rd full weekend of October. At this time, my idea is to
have the event be a form of competition where teams are graded on aspects of
search (RF and grid), first-aid, survivor removal, efficient communication
back to command, ...etc. For those Boy Scouts and Girl Scout (to young or
not active in the competition) we would have the normal "Field Day" show and
tell, and maybe the EOSS balloon launch which has been such a success the
last 2 years.

I have some general ideas, but my plan is much bigger then I can possibly
pull off solo. To do this right, we need to get a working plan moving ASAP,
define objectives and rules, and get the word to the Boy Scouts and Girl
Scouts. Part of my plan would be for the scouts to prepare for the activity
throughout the year, including being invited to help or observe the
exercises conducted routinely in the area, increase their first-aid skills,
and learn about efficient radio communications from the amateur radio
community.

As you can see, the concept is a bit ambitious and requires a commitment.
But, I feel a well-orchestrated event would provide an educational and
meaningful opportunity for the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts in the Pikes Peak
area.

At this time, I'm looking for a planning committee. In addition, I would
like to have people mark the third full weekend on October on their 2003
calendars as an emergency service exercise :)

In general my goals are as follows (not exact dates):
Jan 1 - Have property lined up to hold the event.
Jan 31 - complete general plan (Invite BSA/GSA - get on unit calendars)
Feb 26 - complete scripting - or at least the outline (this is freeze-o-ree
weekend)
Mar 15 - have rules/plan published to scouts; script complete
Jul 1 - completed finding where to get equipment (tents, etc)
Sep 1 - walk through; verify everything. Contact Media
Oct 1 - Verify equipment (tents, port-o-lets, etc). Follow-up Media
JOTA - Setup and execute. Follow-up Media

I have talked to the folks at the Boy Scout office. They liked the idea so
much they want to use this event as a camp-o-ree. This, of course, implies
BSA will handle the camping aspects of the event. It also means we would
have in excess of 100 boy scouts (100 would be a small camp-o-ree turnout).
If the Boy Scouts sponsor JOTA they will welcome the Girl Scouts from Wagon
Wheel Council as well.

As you can see, I a few things moving already. I need your help to get this
on track.
Please Volunteer!
