FIELD DAY!
The PPRAA/MARC Field day is being held at the Agilent
Technologies property, located between Garden of the Gods Road
and Centennial Blvd. Access will be by the Agilent warehouse,
4040 Centennial Blvd. There are 2 entrances on Centennial Blvd.
with Agilent Technologies signs. The one marked 4040 is the
eastern most entrance. Traveling west, you cannot turn south
across Centennial Blvd. The proper way is to go up Garden of the
gods road to 30th., turn north (right), go down to the traffic
light at Centennial and turn south (right).
DO NOT enter the property from the Garden of the Gods site.
You MUST enter from the Centennial Blvd. entrance. This is a
security issue and site security is very adamant about this.
This entrance puts one into the parking lot by the warehouse.
There is a gate at the southern end of the parking lot that will
be locked before I retire for the night, so don't expect to come
in after 2200.
We CANNOT arrive to start setting up before 1700 Friday evening.
In addition, anyone wanting to set up a trailer or motorhome
needs to contact me ASAP. Call me at 590-3036 (w), 636-1290 (h)
or email to [email protected]. Trailers or motorhomes too large to
get in via the Centennial Blvd. entrance will need to be
escorted in by me and there are only certain times I will be free
to do this.
I expect to have a sign at the 4040 Centennial Blvd. entrance.
Please read at least paragraph 16 to the end of the
following guidelines even if you don't care to read the rest
of it!
73, Mike, K0TER, PPRAA/MARC FD chairman

Summary of Field Day Rules which pertain to
Pikes Peak Radio Amateur Association
Mountain Amateur Radio Club
Field Day operations - June 21-23, 2002
The PPRAA/MARC Field Day will have five (5) stations on the air:
Station Location Coordinator
----------- ----------- -------------
HF/CW K0TER's trailer Mike Stansberry, K0TER
HF/SSB Tent Craig Turner, KA0CT
Satellite Tent Tom McDaniel, N0NTX
VHF/UHF Tent Rick Brown, K0SU
GOTA * K0HBZ's trailer/tent Wes Wilson, K0HBZ
* GOTA: Get On The Air
1. Except GOTA the call sign for all stations is WA0VTU.
The call sign for GOTA station is NX0G
2. Operating class is 2A: club/nonclub portable, two (2) transmitters
operating on emergency power (e.g. other than commercial mains) and
set up in a place other than "regular station locations" and using no
facilities installed for permanent station use. For the PPRAA/MARC
operations, only the HF/CW and HF/SSB stations count as transmitters.
The GOTA, Satellite and VHF/UHF are "free" transmitters.
This encourages the use of these bands/modes without changing the
classification of the Field Day group. In addition, bonus points are
awarded for:
1 Satellite QSO : 100 points
5 Natural Power QSOs : 100 points
3. For all stations, contact points are:
CW: 2
DIGITAL: 2
VOICE: 1
4. A DIGITAL mode (non CW) is defined as AMTOR, GTOR, PACKET, PACTOR
or RTTY. On HF, we must not operate a DIGITAL mode station unless
it's done IN PLACE OF the HF/CW or HF/SSB station. Doing so would
change our classification to 3A. It is O.K. for the VHF/UHF
station to operate PACKET, instead of CW or SSB and count it as a
DIGITAL contact.
5. On-the-air exchange is: 2A, CO. ("Two Alpha, Colorado")
6. Access to the site will not be allowed until 1700 Friday, June 21
and we can start set up at that time.
7. Except for 10, 17 and 24 MHz (30, 17 and 12 Meters), all Amateur
bands can be used for contacts; repeater contacts do not count.
Maximum transmitter power is not to exceed 150 watts. Only one (1)
transmitter per band may be on the air at a time (see #10 below for
definition of "band" as it applies to Field Day) except that the
GOTA station is excluded from this rule and may be on the air
simultaneously with another HF/CW, HF/SSB or HF/DIGITAL station.
8. On-the-air operations begin precisely at Noon on Saturday, June 22
and cease precisely at Noon on Sunday, June 23.
9. Once a transmitter is used for a contact on a band, it must remain
on that band for a minimum of 15 minutes before changing to another
band.
10. A station can be contacted once per band. For Field Day scoring,
Voice, CW, and DIGITAL (non-CW) are counted as separate bands. For
example, a station can be contacted on 20 meter voice, again on 20
meter CW, and again on 20 meters using a DIGITAL mode and all three
contacts count. On the VHF/UHF frequencies, the VHF/UHF station
operators may contact the same station once using CW, once using
voice AND once using DIGITAL, on each band. The VHF/UHF station
may operate on only one band at a time (only 1 transmitter on the
air). Please note that at the present time, we have no plans to
operate a separate DIGITAL mode station.
11. All stations will use CT Logging software and the software will
automatically identify duplicate contacts. Should we desire to
operate one of the DIGITAL modes, contact Mike Stansberry to
determine how to handle the logging.
12. All on-air operating is restricted to the privileges of the Control
Operator present at the time. The GOTA station may be operated by
Novice/Tech licensees, generally inactive hams under their existing
operating privileges, or under the direction of a Control Operator
with appropriate privileges, as necessary. Non-licensed persons
may participate under the direct supervision of an appropriate
control operator. Our GOTA station will operate ONLY on the HF
bands, NOT on VHF/UHF. If at any time a Control Operator is not
present at a specific station, (HF/CW, HF/SSB, GOTA, VHF/UHF,
Satellite) that station will not transmit any signals.
13. Only the stations listed above may be on the air as PPRAA/MARC
Field Day transmitters for the purposes of participating in
contacts and scoring. Individuals may wish to operate their own
transmitters from the Field Day site when not operating a "Field
Day Transmitter", however, if such operations interfere with a
Field Day Transmitter, the individual may be requested to cease
operation.
14. Individuals who participate (or plan on participating) at the Field
Day site may not contact WA0VTU or NX0G for credit from a home
station. Also, soliciting contacts in any manner is not consistent
with the spirit of Field Day.
15. These "rules" are a summary of the Field Day Rules published by the
ARRL for individuals and groups who wish to submit their logs and
participate in the Field Day competition. PPRAA/MARC intends to
submit the group's score and expects to be competitive. The Field
Day Rules are not intended to restrict enjoyment or make it
difficult to operate, but only to provide a common set of practices
so all competitors are judged against the same standard. Even
though Field Day is a "competition", PPRAA/MARC intends the focus
of its Field Day to be a setting for Amateur operators and visitors
to enjoy the camaraderie and the outing. If there are any
questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to ask! Local
(on-site) coordination is on 147.42 Mhz simplex.

16. There will be a sign-in sheet for people attending Field Day on
location. Please enter your CALL SIGN, NAME, if registered with
ARES (YES/NO), if ARRL member (YES/NO) and time of arrival on the
sheet. The above information is required for bonus points. You
MUST sign the sign-in sheet as it also is a record for site
security.
17. Because of the extremely dry conditions generators will be
operated in an area that has been cleared of loose grass to a
distance (radius) of 10 feet. Generators will be placed in the
center of the 20 foot diameter circle. Only generators with spark
arresters will be used. All generators will have at least 3
gallons of water in an unbreakable container(s) placed nearby.
18. Smoking will only be allowed inside an enclosed, hard side
vehicle such as an automobile or RV or in the RV parking area.
Cigarettes should be completely extinguished in a metal container
and not snuffed out on the ground.
19. There will be no open fires/campfires. All cooking is to be done
either inside an RV or using the company charcoal cookers located
by the picnic pavilion.
20. NO alcoholic beverages are allowed on Agilent Technologies
property.
