A few years ago Pikes Peak ARES polled its members on the features most
desirable in a VHF/UHF HT for emergency communication purposes. By far, the
most important feature was that it be a dual-band, dual-VFO. At that time
there were about three of these radios available from various manufacturers.
One-by-one, they began to disappear from the marketplace. The W32A is one
of the most used radios by our PPARES members, and it recently was
discontinued. Good news, thanks in part to a lot of letters to Icom, they
have brought the W32A back onto the market.
Our list of desirable features in an emergency communications HT are on our
website at

Manufacturer information is available on the Icom website at
http://www.icomamerica.com/ (click on "Amateur" then "Dual-Band/Multi-Band
HTs"
It's very refreshing when a radio manufacturer actually listens and responds
to the needs of the amateur radio community, particularly when it pertains
to the demanding requirements involved in emergency communications.
