I've temporarily installed WA0ZTI Derek Toeppen's portable repeater at my
house, to be used this weekend for the Pikes Peak Ascent & Marathon. It's
operating today, as of 0750, on 146.865-. This is an experiment to see if
this will work better than the simplex that has been used in the past for
this event. And I may do this again in the future if needed.
I would appreciate getting signal reports from you, especially from if
you're in the Manitou, Old Colorado City, or downtown areas. Let me know
your location and how the signal strength is, what kind of radio (HT or
mobile) you're using, and your antenna.
I won't be answering reports on the air ('cause I'm working today), but if
you would drop me an e-mail to [email protected] I'd appreciate it.
If you're not familiar with this repeater, Derek built a home-brew repeater
from a Motorola radio, and has made it available for emergency and public
service events to ARES, RACES or other groups.
The repeater is transmitting 20 watts into about 50 ft of RG-8 coax, to a
7-element Cushcraft beam at about 20 ft above the ground, aimed at Pikes
Peak.
Thanks!
Rob
