Many CC&Rs also have clauses like this:

11.1	Duration.  This Declaration shall run with the land and shall
continue in force for a term of thirty (30) years from the date hereof,
after which time the same shall be automatically extended for successive
periods of ten (10) years,  unless a Declaration of Termination is recorded
meeting the requirements of an amendment to this Declaration as set forth in
Article 11.2. 

Endless covenants....

expiration dates, and if not renewed, do expire.
