main entrance
*After you get a pass from the receptionist, wear it at all times
*NWS office personnel can talk to visitors and on the radios... *AS TIME

*Please keep noise levels down, and keep the number of visitors to 4 or
less at any one time
*If you are scheduled to come in on a particular hour, try to arrive 10
minutes before
*The break room is for drinks and food (I will buy the pizza)
*The *frequencies/modes and logs will be located next to the radios or
on the PC*
*Any questions...ask me or one of the PSR staff who will be on duty
Here at WFO Phoenix, where the official start time is 5 pm Friday Dec 1,
I would like to have us aware of some of the basics, such as the
Operating Procedures during SRD 2006.
If you have not done so already, and you are on the Visitors List to
come and operate the
radios, please read http://hamradio.noaa.gov
and if you have any questions please ask. In addition, I have
made a copy of the Procedures, and put them at the ham radio work
station.
The national focal point is Matt Mehle, and here is his latest
update...from 15 November:
Hello All,
National SKYWARN Recognition Day is less than three weeks away. This 24
hour amateur radio event begins at 0000 UTC on December 2, 2006. Since
my last update, we have gained roughly 30 more participants. This puts
the running total of registered offices at 75, including our friends at
the Prairie Storm Prediction Center in Winnipeg and the National
Hurricane Center.
Dont forget, information regarding this event will also appear in the
December issue of QST magazine and will most likely be in the Public
Service section. That article will be coming out soon and will alert the
ham community and hopefully increase participation.
I have received a few questions regarding an Echolink/IRLP reflector for
SRD use. We are currently making arrangements and will most likely have
a set up similar to last year with assigned time slots. I will have more
information in my next e-mail update about how offices can sign up for a
time slot.
This is a reminder to those offices working from airport grounds to
notify the airport manager about this event, including any temporary
antennas you plan to erect, and what frequencies will be in use. This is
done as a courtesy to make certain that our operators do not interfere
with airport communications.
On a side note:
The San Diego, CA WFO will be dedicating their operations during SRD to
the five USFS Firefighters that lost their lives battling the
Esperanza Fire a few weeks ago. The fire occurred within their
forecast area (Western Riverside County).
If you have any other questions, let me know.
