[PHX-Skywarn] Ham Help needed at Phx Red Cross

As many of you probably know, Arizona is going to take in some of the
Katrina evacuees. The Colosseum at the fairgrounds as well as a shelter
in
Tucson has been set up.
Late this afternoon, I was contacted by the Red Cross to provide
communications support to the shelter in Phx for the next 5 days. The
actual
manning of this effort is being handled by Mike Swiader KA9WEI for the
Phoenix Shelter. I have included him in the header of this email so that
you
can respond to him directly if you would like to volunteer, or have
people
who might want to volunteer. In talking to Tom Fagan, Tucson is being
handled. I don't have the contact down there, but Tom does, and you can
contact him via this list server or directly if you want to volunteer.
There was a rumor, that Flagstaff and Yuma would also be taking in
evacuees, but as of the time I am writing this, it's not anticipated
they
will open shelters. THAT may change, and we may need to support and man
other shelters if and when they are needed.
In Phoenix, we are going to man shelters on a 6 hour shift basis, and
allow
people to double up if desired. It should be noted we will be manning on
a
24/7 basis for up to a week (maybe longer). Please extend to Mike all
the
support you can.
