[PHX-Skywarn] RE: New SKYWARN radio

Call me a heretic, but from my seat in the peanut gallery, it appears
that we have the cart first, then the horse. Since I'm certain that
smart people are leading SkyWarn, I suspect someone has good
explanations for these recent activities.

Tell me again the purpose of an HF station at SkyWarn Central. I mean,
there must be a better justification than just increased frequency
spectrum. Who is that station intended to contact, when, and why?

For instance, is there an established relevant HF spotting net we plan
to plug into? If not, are there plans to establish one? What are those
plans?

Is there a general Amateur emergency response net we intend to tie into?
What are the net details? What symbiotic relationship does SkyWarn have
with that net?

What is the expected optimum range for this HF station? Are we
intending to contact Washington DC, Washington state, or Washington
Avenue to support the SkyWarn charter? If statewide range is optimum,
would that imply 75m as the band of choice? Not to knock HF verticals,
but are there plans to install an efficient 75m antenna to compete with
the inevitable QRN during storm conditions?

I know, I know. I ask a lot of questions. I assume SkyWarn leadership
asked all these before pursuing an HF station at the PAB. Now that we
have the HF capability, what is the vision going forward?

Regards,
